Rail

Passenger rail is the largest contributor to Keolis' international revenue. The group is active in five countries: the UK and the Netherlands, via joint ventures, and the USA, Germany and France as an independent operator.

Keolis draws on support from its principal shareholder, the French national rail company SNCF, bringing its expertise in all areas of rail operations and on all scales, from dense, urban commuter rail to inter-city transport and the latest project, launched in 2009 in Britain: regional high speed.

Through its approach to transport management which draws on extensive knowledge sharing, Keolis is able to ensure high standards of security, quality and comfort for passengers.

Focus on commuter rail

Among its franchises, Keolis joint venture Govia operates in particular two of Britain's busiest commuter networks, the South Central franchise (under the brand Southern) and Southeastern. Keolis draws on its experience of operating transport systems in high-density urban areas and can also use its close relationship with the SNCF to bring expertise from the Paris urban network to that of London, both highly congested regions. Issues addressed include dealing with service disruption, driver training and simulation tools.

Train key figures

  • 4875 km of network
  • More than 1000 train sets
  • 11 franchises across 5 countries
  • More than 60% of international turnover generated by rail activities
