Keolis’ Australian subsidiary, Keolis Downer, has started operating a new real-time on-demand transport service in Newcastle, as part of its Smart City Program. This new service builds on the success of existing on-demand services in Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, where ridership continues to grow by over 5% each month. It provides the local community and visitors a better access to public transport and aims to shift from private cars to public transport
On 16 September, Keolis opened the automated Shanghai Pudong International Airport metro through its Chinese joint venture. The Passenger Rapid Transit System connects two existing terminals (T1 and T2) to two satellite halls (S1 and S2) which were inaugurated on the same day. This new milestone bolsters Keolis’ presence in China so it can more effectively meet the country’s growing urban mobility needs and enhances its position as a world leader in automated metro operation and maintenance
22-08-2019Keolis’ Australian subsidiary Keolis Downer has been awarded a new contract by Western Australia Public Transport Authority to operate buses in Geraldton, a city 450km north of Perth (Western Australia) with a population of around 40,000 residents.
Through its joint venture in China, Keolis opened a new section of the Songjiang tram network on 10 August, bringing its total coverage up to 27 kilometres and the number of stations served to 40. In a bid to reduce numbers of urban car journeys, the network is intended to carry some 170,000 passengers per day. This milestone is important for Songjiang residents and visitors to it – who are now able to rely on a sustainable and comfortable shared mobility solution for getting around the city –, as well as for Keolis, which is bolstering its presence in China and shoring up its position as a leading global tram operator.
On 8 May 2019, RKH Qitarat, the joint venture consisting of RATP Dev, Keolis and Hamad Group, opened the first section of the Doha metro to the public. This follows the award in December 2017 by Qatar Rail of a contract to operate and maintain Qatar’s first urban rail transport network for a period of 20 years. The network includes three automated metro lines in Doha, the Qatari capital, and four tram lines located in the city of Lusail.
