The bus network, operated by Keolis since June 2013, serves Hinnerup residents within the town and also connects them to Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city, where it also operates the light rail system.
This extension reflects Midttrafik's confidence in Keolis as a partner and consolidates the group’s footprint in Denmark. In addition to the Aarhus light rail network, Keolis already operates 500 buses in the country, to be followed by the Odense light rail network by the end of 2021.
We are delighted to extend our collaboration with Midttrafik for another four years and are honoured by its confidence, which illustrates our strong culture of partnership and the good performance we have demonstrated over the past eight years. Midttrafik can count on our passenger-centric approach for a shared mobility service that is reliable, safe and efficient
A bus network linked to the Aarhus light rail network
On 13 February 2021, Keolis’ Danish subsidiary, Keolis Danmark, was awarded a four-year contract extension by Midttrafik worth approximately €13 million to continue operating and maintaining the Hinnerup bus network in East Jutland, a small town in the municipality of Favrskov. The initial contract, which started in June 2013, is now extended until June 2025.
Keolis operates 14 biodiesel buses, each one capable of carrying 80 passengers. 13 buses serve the town of Hinnerup (8,000 inhabitants) and one is used as a commuter bus to Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city, 10km from Hinnerup.
This commuter bus interconnects with the 110 km-long Aarhus light rail network, which Keolis has been operating since December 2017.
A team of 70 Keolis employees, including drivers, mechanics and local management, are dedicated to this network.
Keolis in Denmark
Keolis has been present in Denmark since 2007. It employs 1,600 people and operates around 500 buses across the country as well as the country’s first tram network in Aarhus, which opened in December 2017, and a second network in Odense, which is scheduled to open in autumn 2021.
