Following a competitive tender process, the municipality of Greater Besançon has chosen the Keolis Group to operate all of the transport services offered to its 190,000 inhabitants in the 70 communes of the region.
As part of this new public service delegation contract, Keolis Besançon Mobilités will operate the trams, high-frequency and regular bus services, and will offer new flexible mobility solutions for on-demand transport. These new customised services, organised on request, will be introduced in addition to regular bus lines, to improve access to key locations such as the train station, hospital and medical centres.
In order to make the network accessible to the greatest number of people, services for passengers with reduced mobility will be extended to all of the Greater Besançon region.
By relying on the efficient train services already provided by the TER (suburban trains) network, Keolis intends to develop new outer suburban and on-demand transport solutions, such as car sharing, in order to encourage the use of shared transport.
To improve service quality to the passenger journey on the network, Keolis Besançon Mobilités will launch a new website in 2018 featuring an online shop and a mobile app integrating all mobility services (trams, buses, bikes, on-demand services, car sharing, trains and cars). These innovations will be managed by Koredge and Vix, two local Besançon companies.
Keolis commits to maximising the municipality’s financial investment, while strengthening the attractiveness of the Ginko network. This will be undertaken by offering new comprehensive and connected transport services for the whole region, the Group aims to increase network patronage by nine per-cent by 2024.
Key figures for the Ginko network:
- 5.9km million travelled per year
- 27 million journeys each year on the tram and bus network
- 2 tram lines
- 1 high frequency bus line
- 18 regular bus lines
- 500 employees.
