The 9½ year bus contract will see Keolis operating a fleet that runs on 100% renewable energy, consisting of 136 mainly electric buses. Synergies between the new bus operation and Keolis’ light rail network will offer passengers a more integrated mobility offer. Keolis’ track record in operating worldwide bus networks and light rail guarantees a solid expertise base for Bergen’s public transport users.
From 1 July 2019, Keolis will run Envibus, the transport network of the Sophia Antipolis agglomeration community* (24 cities in the south of France), for a period of 4 years (renewable 3 times, for a period of one year each time). Network use is expected to increase by 17% between now and 2023. An offer that stands in firm support of the energy transition, with the construction of a sustainable depot and the entry into service of a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) powered by natural gas.
On Thursday, June 20th , the new UTP Executive Board unanimously elected Jean-Pierre Farandou as chairman President for the next two years. Keolis' President and CEO succeeds to Thierry Mallet in the role. The UTP is the French Public Transport Association, a professional union bringing together major public transport companies.
On 29 April 2019, the French Riviera Urban Community selected Keolis to operate and maintain its public transport network called Zest. This new six-year public service delegation contract starts on 8 July 2019 and is expected to generate a total revenue of €60 million. Keolis’ missions are to reinforce the transport network offer across the 15 cities and villages of the community and modernise the network by rolling out new digital services, including Wi-Fi access in all buses. Keolis has committed to increasing passenger numbers by 17% and boosting revenue by 24% across the whole network between now and 2025.
On June 10-12, at the UITP World Congress 2019, Keolis demonstrated how 5G technology can be harnessed to control autonomous vehicles remotely. The 5G technology provided by Ericsson offers increased efficiency, reliability and safety in autonomous vehicles operation.
