Optimising asset performance

Keolis has extensive expertise in maintaining and improving the overall condition and reliability of the transport system. The Group develops robust inspection regimes to predict asset failures, adapt maintenance plans based on condition, and implement initiatives to achieve high levels of reliability and service availability.


Reducing life cycle cost

Minimising life cycle costs, and not only maintenance costs, is at the heart of Keolis’ asset management principles. Keolis is accustomed to working with public transport authorities to develop life cycle cost models and outline the most valuable asset scenarios, which may include their rehabilitation, upgrade or replacement.

Lyon metro benefits from Keolis’ asset management expertise

Increasing the life of assets can make a substantial difference to whole-life costs. Keolis’ asset management expertise proved particularly effective when Lyon’s PTA asked the Group to analyse which solution would be most appropriate for the 32 metro trains on lines A and B that will end their design life cycle by 2018. After defining alternative scenarios and running life cycle cost simulations, Keolis recommended extending the life of the rolling stock: a solution that will save Lyon taxpayers nearly $500 million over the next 15 years.


Using data to drive decisions  

At Keolis we believes asset data is essential to making informed choices and driving decisions on maintenance, renewal or life extension. In addition to the information collected by our inspectors and maintenance staff, we use asset sensors are used to automatically collect data and accurately monitor their condition. This allows us to optimise maintenance plans, implement predictive maintenance regimes, reduce operating costs and extend the life of assets.

Keolis and Yarra Trams in Melbourne: a unique and major responsibility

With 250 kilometres of double tracks, Yarra Trams in Melbourne is the largest operating tram network in the world. For the past eight years, Keolis has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of the trams but also for the renewal of track and infrastructure, demonstrating Keolis’ renowned expertise in asset management.
