Keolis has been awarded a new public service contract by Sydtrafik, the public transport authority of Southern Jutland, Denmark, to operate and maintain a 100% electric bus network in the region.

The contract, which will begin on 28 June 2026, covers the operation of six lines across six cities—including Kolding, Vejen, Vejle, and Billund—with a fleet of 15 Yutong U12 electric buses and 2 spares, covering approximately 250 km of network. It is set for a duration of 10 years, with a 2-year extension option, and is expected to generate a cumulative revenue of approximately €60 million.

This new contract marks a strategic milestone for Keolis in Denmark, enabling the Group to re-establish operations in the Sydtrafik area for the first time since 2013, and to consolidate its presence across all five public transport authorities (PTAs) in the country.

To prepare for the start of operations, Keolis will establish three new operational sites in Kolding, Vejen, and Vejle —complementing the existing facility in Billund—and install the necessary charging infrastructure to support the fully electric fleet.

A dedicated team of 33 employees, including 30 drivers, will be recruited and trained to deliver high-quality, environmentally friendly public transport services to local communities

We are proud to be returning to the Sydtrafik area and honoured by the trust placed in us. This new contract is a key step in expanding our presence across all Danish PTAs and demonstrates our strong commitment to supporting the energy transition through reliable, fully electric mobility solutions.

Peter Lanng Nielsen, Managing Director, Keolis Denmark.

Expanding Keolis’ strong presence in Denmark

Keolis has been operating in Denmark since 2000. The Group employs more than 1,400 people and runs over 400 buses in eight Danish cities, including Copenhagen and Odense. It also operates two tram networks: the Aarhus light rail (launched in 2017) and the Odense tramway (inaugurated in 2022). With this new contract, Keolis continues to support Danish regions in their energy transition and reinforces its expertise in operating electric bus fleets, which it has developed since 2021.
