Keolis has been awarded a major contract by the public transport authority Movia to operate a bus network in the central region of Zealand, Denmark. The network covers six cities – Slagelse, Ringsted, Skælskør, Næstved, Køge and Roskilde – serving a population of around 350,000.

The contract has an initial term of 6 years and may be extended to up to 14 years, subject to meeting performance targets. Operations are set to begin on 27 June 2027. The cumulative revenue over the full period could exceed €150 million.

A new step towards decarbonised mobility

The contract includes the operation of 30 buses, of which 26 are fully electric vehicles equipped with next-generation 465 kWh batteries, alongside four diesel buses that will be deployed temporarily for two years. Keolis will oversee the development of charging infrastructure across four depots located in Slagelse, Ringsted, Skælskør and Næstved.

In total, the fleet will serve 11 routes covering 230 km and connecting seven stations. A team of around 85 full-time employees will be dedicated to ensuring a high-quality service.

A strong focus on service quality

The potential extension of the contract until 2041 is contingent on meeting strict performance criteria, including a 99.90% service reliability rate and high levels of customer satisfaction. These commitments reflect the shared ambition of Keolis and Movia to deliver reliable, sustainable, and passenger-focused public transport service.

Strengthening Keolis’ presence in Denmark

Keolis has been operating in Denmark since 2000. The Group employs more than 1,400 people and runs over 400 buses in eight Danish cities, including Copenhagen and Odense. It also operates two tram networks: the Aarhus light rail (launched in 2017) and the Odense tramway (inaugurated in 2022). With this new contract, Keolis continues to support Danish regions in their energy transition and reinforces its expertise in operating electric bus fleets, which it has developed since 2021.

“We are proud to support Movia in achieving its ambitious goals for sustainable and high-quality public transport. This new contract marks an important step in Keolis’ contribution to the decarbonisation of mobility in Denmark. With over 20 years of experience in the country, we are committed to delivering reliable, passenger-focused services and to accelerating the transition to electric mobility in close collaboration with the local communities we serve.”
