Keolis has been awarded a new ten-year contract by the Public Transport Administration in Region Dalarna to continue operating and developing bus services in Falun and Borlänge, with traffic starting on 12 June 2028.

Building on over a decade of partnership with Region Dalarna, the new contract marks a significant step forward in electrification, with a commitment to 100% electric operation in city traffic and 50% in regional services, placing passengers and sustainability at the heart of public transport in the region.

The Public Transport Administration in Region Dalarna has renewed its trust in Keolis to continue operating and developing bus traffic across Falun and Borlänge. The new contract runs for ten years, with a traffic start date of 12 June 2028, and confirms Keolis as a long-term partner in the development of public transport across one of Sweden's most scenic and historically significant regions. This latest award builds on a continuous partnership between Keolis and Region Dalarna stretching back to 2015, when Keolis first won the contract for urban bus services in Falun and Borlänge. Since then, Keolis has worked consistently alongside the regional public transport authority to raise service quality, modernise the fleet, and expand the offer for passengers across both urban and regional routes.

“This is an assignment that means a lot to us. Together with Region Dalarna, we have taken important steps in recent years in the electrification and development of bus traffic in Falun and Borlänge. We now have the opportunity to continue that development, with a focus on quality, sustainability and attractive public transport for passengers.”

A decisive step forward in electrification

The new contract introduces an ambitious electrification programme that reflects the joint commitment of Keolis and Region Dalarna to sustainable mobility. City bus services in Falun and Borlänge will transition to 100% electric operation, while regional services will reach 50% electric. This gradual and structured transition will deliver quieter, cleaner and more comfortable journeys for passengers, while contributing to the region's broader environmental objectives.

Electrification is a cornerstone of Keolis Sweden's strategic roadmap. The company already operates a fully electric bus network in Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city, and has accumulated significant expertise in deploying electric fleets across its Swedish operations. This experience will be directly applied to the benefit of passengers and communities in Dalarna.

A long-standing commitment to quality in Dalarna

Keolis has been present in Region Dalarna since 2015, operating urban bus services in Falun and Borlänge under successive contracts. Over the years, the partnership has been marked by continuous fleet renewal, investment in driver working conditions, and a shared ambition to grow ridership and improve the passenger experience. In 2024, Keolis and Dalatrafik extended their existing agreement, reaffirming the strength of the relationship ahead of this new competitive award.

This new ten-year contract now sets the conditions for an even more ambitious phase of development, with a clear focus on quality, sustainability and an attractive service for the people of Falun and Borlänge.
