In April 2024, the Metro West Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) selected Keolis to operate its bus services, including fixed-route lines, on-demand transport, and services for passengers with reduced mobility.

This three-year contract, with two optional one-year extensions, reflects Keolis’s growth strategy in North America. Last year, Keolis doubled its bus business in the region following contract wins in Phoenix and Austin. The new contract also strengthens the Group’s presence in the Greater Boston area, where it already operates commuter rail services and parking facilities on behalf of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

Starting on 1 July 2025, Keolis will manage the full range of MWRTA services, covering a territory of over 1,000 km² with a fleet of 90 vehicles and delivering around 700,000 passenger journeys a year.

The MWRTA advisory board praised the technical quality of Keolis’ proposal, particularly its focus on service improvements and the energy transition. The Group will support the authority across several strategic priorities: increasing ridership, transitioning to alternative fuels, expanding the service offer, and attracting and retaining drivers.

« The MWRTA is proud to partner with Keolis, one of the leading public transport operators in Massachusetts and around the world. Every day, our service advances in its mission to connect the public to the destinations they need, and we look forward to working with Keolis to continue delivering on that mission »

Jim Nee, Administrator of the MWRTA.

« This new contract reflects our ambition to continue growing in North America. For the past ten years, Keolis has served communities around Boston by delivering safe and reliable commuter rail services in partnership with the MBTA. We are proud to now support the MWRTA as well, helping to improve the bus service offer, increase ridership and accelerate the energy transition »
