Île-de-France Mobilités awards two new bus operating contracts to Keolis

10th July 2023
  • Keolis secures two six-year contracts awarded by Île-de-France Mobilités, beginning on 1 January 2024. The first, in partnership with Transports Intercommunaux Centre Essonne (TICE), involves operating bus lines serving the west of the Grand Paris Sud administrative area. The second involves operating bus lines serving Haut Val-d'Oise.
  • These two contracts reinforce Keolis's position as the leading mobility operator in Essonne and lift it to first place in Val-d'Oise.

The first bi-articulated fully electric BRT line in Île-de -France

The Centre Essonne contract includes the operation of 38 lines serving around 350,000 residents in Essonne and Seine-et-Marne. The network covers two large population centres: the left bank, which is more urbanised around Evry-Courcouronnes, and the urban development on the right bank. These lines represent over nine million kilometres of journeys every year.

Keolis and TICE proposed to adapt the network to the T12 tram-train, which is due to enter service in December 2023. This new infrastructure will improve services for around a dozen Essonne municipalities, linking the main traffic-generating centres in the area with three RER lines (B, C and D).

The contract also includes the operation of the Tzen 4, a new electric bus rapid transit (BRT) line running mainly in its own dedicated lane. This will replace the northern section of line 402 over a distance of 14 km between Viry-Châtillon and the RER station in Corbeil-Essonnes, serving 30 stops in five municipalities. The Tzen 4 will be the first bi-articulated fully-electric BRT line in Île-de-France, equipped with an innovative induction charging system. Recharging will be by ground contact: an innovative and interoperable technology for electric transport.

The award of this new bus network in partnership with TICE consolidates Keolis in its position as the leading public transport operator in Essonne.

Keolis, leading mobility operator in Val-d'Oise

The Haut Val-d'Oise contract will serve the 52 municipalities in Haut Val-d'Oise, the Oise valley, the three forests area and Carnelle Pays-de-France, which have a combined population of 340,000. The network will consist of 27 bus lines travelling around 3.25 million kilometres a year. As part of the contract, Keolis has committed to building a brand-new bus operations centre in Persan.

The award will make Keolis the leading mobility operator in Val-d'Oise.
